Day 9

Toady we finished our video. All we have left to do is convert it and upload it to you tube. I can't believe that it's already close to end. I wish I could work here all the time. Tomorrow we will have a party and watch our video. I hope the staff likes it because we worked hard on it. Hopefully it will look nice since the music kind of doesn't match the video. I wanted to put The Entertainer in as the music, but it cost money so I had to use this really romantic sounding music that didn't even match the video. But today the biggest thing that caught my attention wasn't necessarily work but this article about a shooting in Norway. A madman went to a youth camp and started killing many people. This made me very sad because I don't understand why people do the things like that. I also image myself in that situation and calling my mom. What would I feel. I feel like the girl was very brave to call her mom. I most likely would have panic like crazy and freak out. I hate reading stories like this. Hopefully things like this wont happen more since life is precious and no one has the right to take away our right to live.

Day 8

Somayah and I worked together today on our video project. It's looking good so far. All we need is to add music, talk more about the sources and add the atomic structures in. I wanted to put in this music from the 1920s, but I couldn't remember the name of the piece. It's a really famous piece but I dont remember what it's called. I can humm it but I dont remember the name. But I look for it tonight and hopefully find it. I thinkwe will be done with our video soon and even have time left over. It's been a good day. I brought in luch since I didn't eat breakfast. Tomorrow Somayah and I will eat while we are working. I think we will also take a lot of picture since our internship is close to done. Only about 2 day left before it's over. I'm glad Somayah was my parnter because we made a good tram!

Day 7

Wow today was a stressful day. Our interview got canceled so we worked on the video the whole day. Today we learned how to uses all the different tools to make our video. Many time the files didn't download to the dvd player. We were geting very irrated by it. And at first there was no volume on our videos. Afterward Mrs. Moser helped us figure it it out. Although it was stressful today I had a lot of fun working with the new technology. It was really fun to learn how to photoshop the pictures and edit the video. But it also made me realize that I am not a technology person since I can't figure out all the problems and had to ask for help mant time. I think I am going to go home tonight and work on it a little more so I dont have to stress over it later. Somayah was also a great help today. She knew a lot more than I did about technology. I'm glad to have her as my partner. Hopefully things will turn out okay. I can't belive that it tuesday already of the second week. The time is going by so quickly. Can't wait to show everyone the video!

Day 6

Today was very tiring. We worked on our video all today. We had to ask many of the students question about the library. Though many of them didn't want to be in our video. After a while I didn't even want to ask anymore. I know everyone busy and shy so I don't blame them, but its just really stressful when you dont get a positive response. But afterward we waited for about an hour and asked new students. This time many more people agree to be in our video. It made us very happy and relieved since we finally got our 5 students interview done. Hopefully we will finish our video on time. I really love this internship, but I'm just really tired right now so I seem a little negative. I think we have a lot of time to work on our video so I'm not to worried. I just want it to turn out good and creative. I can't believe this is my second week here already. Time just seem to fly by. I think friday will come pretty soon and I will be really sad and miss it here espcially working woth Somayah since she's an awesome partner.

Day 5

Today was really fun. We went to Pascal and look at all the books. The rooms were very cold even though it was very hot outside. We got to ride the order picker all the way up. Even though I really afraid of height, I didn't want to miss out on the ride. I think going down was the most fun since we went super fast. We also learned how a book is scanned for the students here and how each students can get it free since they pay for it in their tutition. Also Somayah and me make a box to put the books in. It washard at first, but we got the hang of it afterwards. We also put in new books for the students to use. It was a lot of fun. I'm enjoying a lot so far.

Day 4

Today we had a tour of the library with Mike. He talked about what he thought of the library. He had a lot of good ideas. He talked about how if he had enough money he would put in more study space for the students. He also wanted to remove some of the unnecessay things that are here in the library and use those spaces to make a study room for the students. But he said that it's what the users want. We always need to ask the users what they like to change. He said that we need more types of online sources since now this generation of students are using more electronics resources. Students dont want to carry heavy books to class so they can come to the references desk and borrow it instead. I love all his ideas and hope it will eventually carry out.

Day 3

Today was amazing! Today we went to look at the different rare books and old medical tools. It was so fascinating what they were telling us about the book. How each page was made. The different anatomy books had actual people who were cut down piece by piece to view the inside body. The pages were so old and I felt like I would break it just by touching it a little. The different medical tools were amazing. The purpose they serve were so scary and gruesome that I could not image being one of the people operated on back in the past. I think it so interesting how we look at it though. When we see these tools we say things like "I'm glad I wasn't born then" but people then didn't know any more. All they knew were that these tools were there and it could save their life. It makes me wonder if in the future people will look back at our generation and think "wow they didn't have that! They must have felt miserable" but yet we don't feel the loss of it because we never really had any feelings toward it. History is just so amazing. Today make me feel even stronger that I need a career in history. Maybe traveling around the world and teaching about history. I now think I'm going to major in international studies and minor in history. Though I'm not guaranteed it will absolutely stay that way. I also love learning about building 500. How it use to be a military place to help military soldiers. It scares me to think about how many people could have died there, but still fascinated me. I really had a lot of much fun today and hope it will be as much fun as this in the days to come.

Day 2

Today we interviewed Mr. Jerry Berry and Mrs. Heidi Zuniga. They both were amazing and I loved interviewing them both. I learned a lot of things I didn't know about librarians. There were so much challenging things they have to face and problems they had to solve everyday. But they seem to enjoy their jobs a lot and it made me wonder what career I should take to make me love my job as much as they did. I gain even more respect for librarians because they do a lot for the students here at the university. During the interview they both made us feel so comfortable and less nervous. I liked learning about their background. Like how Heidi wanted to visits all the different countries. She was very friendly and nice to us. Jerry was really funny. He made me feel less nervous when talking to him. I like his ideas about how if he could he would add mores librarians to be expert in finding information. When he talked about the tea, I thought about my dad since my dad is also a lover of tea. It was a wonderful and rewarding experience for me to be able to talk to them. It was a good 2 day =)

DAY 1

Today was my first day as a library intern. It was a good start. I haven't worked for a library for so long so the feeling is somewhat familiar . I meet all the staffs here. They all seem very interesting and friendly. They all had their own interesting story to tell about their experiences and I love how everyone had their own little unique thing about themselves. We went on the tours around the library. I think my favorite part about the tours were looking at the old medical tools, old books, and all the painting of the creator of the library. I LOVE history so I feel like the library had so much history within it. I also didnt notice the art of the man that was place in the front while being in the PCHCP. Now that I see it, it was very fascinating to me. I also notice that there were books and videos we were allow to check out. I will definitely check those out while I'm here. I'm liking it so far and I know I will continue to enjoy the rest of these two weeks.

Finding Informations

When I do a research project I feel that the hardest thing is finding little information on a topic I need to know a lot about. Often when I research I notice that the information I find are too broad and I don't know where to find the little details on it. I also find it hard to find searches that directly related to my searches. Sometime if I do find it, I'm not even sure if those information are true or factual. Library Research help me realize the different options I have for research. I learned things I never knew. There are things about GOOGLE that I did not know occurred at all. For example I didn't realize that GOOGLE got paid to bump up certain sites when you type certain key words. I always thought it was based on popular sites and how people access it. Or how GOOGLE filtered your searches for you. Those things were very interesting to learn. There are also many things I already learned that was taught in this class. For example how to find research that was creditable and how to verified that the information were truthful. Though I don't mind relearning it because it can always help to relearn things. I believe that the more I learn it, the more I will be likely to use it in my school works. Library Research was helpful in a lot of ways and taught me things I never knew.

I Dont Need Books Right?

This is wrong. Internet has a lot of things that are not creditable. People often make up things on the Internet that they want and other people believe it like it's true. Books are better sources to trust since it's written by an author who did research and had other sources within writing the books itself. Even reading for fun books is important. I believe that the author went to school and learn how to write before they publish a book. When we read from the Internet, we are often looking at bad grammars and writing that is not written correctly. When we actually read a book, we are looking at deeper meaning, good grammars, and good writing skills, unless the author wrote purposely in a style that is different. Books can help educate people more than Internet. The Internet is a very useful tool to have, but we often abuse it by using it to do the work for us. When I was in biology we had take home quizzes. When I look for help in the Internet, I found the questions on yahoo answers. There were also the answers to it, but often the people who answer simply gave an answer without an explanation of why it was true. Of course, I was one of the people who just circle the answer on my sheet and didn’t really care why that were the answer. When we actually graded it, it turn out some of the answers were wrong. But there were also some correct answer. I didn’t learn my lesson then and continue to do the same thing with all of the take home quizzes. Most of the time I had all the right answers, but it hurted me in the long run. When the big test day came, I didn’t know a lot of the information on the tests. All my friends told me that the test was easy for them because they had seen a similar question on the quiz and had understood why it was the answers. That when I learned that by using the Internet I had hurt my self since the test was a larger grade than the quizzes. That’s why I believe many people abuses the use of the Internet without knowing how it can hurt them. Books and Internet are both very powerful tools if we can learn how to correctly use them both.
